The Death Of Me (Clearview Academy Book 1) Page 9
“That was a bad decision.”
“What do you mean?”
“You've made so many bad decisions tonight.” The form sat down.
“I'm leaving.”
“Afraid not.”
Even in my drunken state, I managed to stand up and glare down at the person sitting next to me. “And what are you going to do to stop me?”
The light of the moon caught the glint of metal before the knife made contact with my skin. It surprised me that I was able to move out of the way so quickly. Stumbling, I got past the trunk and took off running – the wrong way.
Instead of going towards the cabin, I ran further into the woods. The dark form stood up with a small chuckle. “Where do you think you're going Avery?”
The tree branches reached out from their lofty homes to pull at my hair and scratch my skin. Panic clawed its way out of my chest, making my breath come out in shallow little gasps. Behind me, I could hear the footsteps getting louder – whoever was chasing me wasn't even trying to be quiet.
“What do you think you're doing?” I screeched. “Somebody help!”
Something crashed into me, hard enough to make me fall face forward onto the ground. “No one will help you,” the voice above me panted. “Why would they want to?”
“Who are you?” I screamed out. “Why are you doing this?”
“Just trying to have some fun.” The knife I had caught a glimpse of earlier flashed fully into view. “Aren't you having fun?”
My scream echoed far into the night, a scream that went on and on until everything suddenly went silent.

Amy Richie has lived in a small town her entire life. She lives with her three kids and their cats, George and Ellie. She began writing in high school but never took it seriously until a few years ago. She enjoys writing because it takes her out of her everyday life and gives life to the people in her head. “When I was little I wanted to be a mermaid, then when I was in high school I wanted to be a vampire; now as an adult I’m a writer, which is better because now I get to be both.”
